The Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department held a Khatam Al-Qur'an Ceremony, recitation of Ratib Al-Attas, Selawat Tafrijiyyah and Doa Kesyukuran in Conjunction with the 55th Anniversary of the Renaming of Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan. The ceremony was held at the Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan. Bandar Brunei was officially renamed as Bandar Seri Begawan on 4th October 1970, in honour of the late Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, who was known as Seri Begawan after his abdication.
Present was Awang Salminan bin Haji Burut, Permanent Secretary for Safety and Welfare at the Ministry of Home Affairs. Among the activities of the event were the recitation of Selawat Tafrijiyyah, Dikir Marhaban, ending with the doa kesyukuran dan doa peliharakan Sultan. Also present were members of the Legislative Council. Such a ceremony aimed to further enhance a sense of gratitude to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala for the blessings of peace and progress of Bandar Seri Begawan.
